What is link anchor text?

I've recently began reading a couple of webmaster forums and I keep seeing people refer to "link anchor text". Can you tell me what it is ?

 

Look at my sign. link "Hospital Equipment Manufacturers" is called anchor text.

 

Anchor text is visible and clickable text in hyperlink, the word contain of hyperlink is display as link. Use of keywords as anchor text, it will improve your relevance, increase traffic by those anchor text keyword and improve ranking by that keyword also.
