Latent semantic indexing is an advance step in the document indexing process. It helps to find which keywords a document contains, it detects the same keywords if any where else available on any other page. Then it decide about the resemblance LSI considers documents that have many words in common to be semantically close.:)

Latent semantic analysis (LSA) is a technique in natural language processing, in particular in vectorial semantics, of analyzing relationships between a set of documents and the terms they contain by producing a set of concepts related to the documents and terms.
