I've recently started getting a lot of car related spam (car parts, car services, etc). My sites are getting a lot of spam comments daily with tons of links to car related pages. I am even getting more car spam than Viagra spam Why so many people want to rank for car related keywords? Does it pay that much?
The car parts and car service industries are booming (due to the economy and less new car sales). New players are likely jumping in trying to get a piece of the pie and spamming their pants off to rank for some terms. http://money.cnn.com/2009/03/16/autos/car_repairs/index.htm
there's alot of competitors on that niche.. and its really hard to get their on top.. i also receive alot of that on my emails..
What Reseg said is probably true - more people are turning to repairs than buying new cars. Therefore servicing and car parts are seeing an increase in volume, hence more spam for you. Btw is your website related to cars or are the spammers just dropping these links on non-related pages. Another thing, why don't you employ an anti-spamming thing on your site, like captcha or something similar?
You could set the spam filter on your mail account to prevent these from sneaking through... What is annoying the hell out of me right now is the teeth whitening rubbish though... It's simply driving me crazy.
Thanks for your replies! Makes more sense now. My site does not mention the word "car" anywhere on its pages. It seems to be blind spamming! I've never had a big problem with spam on my sites, but recelty I started getting lots of car spam. I guess I'll just setup some anti spam feature.
Spam fliter is very useful, it tell other people that you don't allow spam. or the spam become more and more.
