What is it called when your site gets a good ranking for the first time on Google then drops a few spots the next time its crawled? My site
http://www.chicagolandcadillacdealers.co... got indexed and ranked on the 1st page for a few keywords....now it has dropped a bit. I read somewhere about google giving new sites a boost. Does this procedure have a name?

That's just called life ;) I don't think there's a special name for it, but I could be wrong.

Oh wait.... are you talking about the "Sandbox"... that could be what you are looking for?

I prefer the term 'getting your Google cherry popped'. :)

Rankings are always jumping around though. An established website can experience the same thing. People often refer to this as the 'Google dance'.

Don't know whether there might be a direct term, but I always call it a "temporary boost in search engine ranking" :)

    I know what you mean.

Several times, I've seen new websites for my industry appear on the first page, and they did not inch their way up there - virtually no backlinks and minimal content. Then they slide down out of view over the next weeks.

And I rarely see the reverse.

It's not the sandbox, and it can't be by accident that they appear on the first page with no content worth bringing them there that quick.
