    Hello SEO Experts,

this question is only for SEO Experts , don't answer anyone that don't know the answer, i want to ask that what is image optimization in SEO? i know it is part of on-page optimization and you need to add alt attribute to every image tag along with that you can also create albums in various image sites so apart from this i want to ask that:

what else can come as a part of image optimization?
can i get back link from image sites in to which i have stored my images?
kindly give some image site lists to which i can submit my images?

Thanks in advance for giving smart and expert answers.

Image optimization is the process of making your website images more search friendly as well as user friendly.
    .
    1. First, choose only relevant images.....ie, images that really goes with the content.

    2. Use main keyword as file names (if you have chosen an apt image, it won't be a problem)

For eg: "main-keyword.jpg". I sometimes add domain name also to all the image files. But please don't make it too big.
    eg: "domainname-mainkeyword.jpg"

    3. Add 'alt' attribute to img tag. This 'alt' description should be relevant (to that particular page and image )and should have the main keyword. Again don't stuff your keyword here.

    4. Use "title" attribute to image tag. Add the right description with the main keyword. This is another way to spice up things ..for users as well as search engines. That is when you bring the cursor on to the image, this description is shown.

Again, don't use the same alt and title description to more than one image on the same page. It will have negative effect.

    5. Place the images in aptly categorized folders will also help.

    "maincategory/subcategory/imagefilenamewithkeyword.jpg"

    eg: "seo/onpage/image-optimization.jpg"

    6. If you want to use images as links, then use descriptive anchor text that describes the image.
    <a href="link">image anchor text</a>

7.Image file size and dimensions should be reasonable. You can give an option for bigger view by clicking the image.

Hope these points will help you.

Google Image Search Optimization Now More Important To SEO

Flickr is the best image sharing site. Add a link back in the description field. The link is no follow, but that doesn't matter. It is good to have no follow links to give a natural feel to your link profile.

Images are also indexed by search engines. It also factors in in the ranking of your webpage. Ideally, each webpage should have at least one related image with appropriate ALT tags and file name.

For a webpage on "white rabbits", you have an image like this.

    <img src="white-rabbits.jpg" alt="White Rabbits"/>

Images as an asset for organic search results and search engine optimization are often overlooked. Images can drive traffic through image search as well as inclusion in universal search results.

Image SEO can be helpful to think of optimizing images like optimizing a tiny webpage within your page. Google believes images make for a better user-experience for searchers, and Google has a tendency to weight experience-enhancing business listings for better ranking.

Simple. I use dash to separate the name of the image when I save it. And space for giving it a title on post. :)
Of course the name and title is the keyword.

Yes, they are not read by search engines.. so in order to make them visible to search engine spiders, we need to add alt attribute to the img tags. Title attribute also helps to make it more relevant.

Thanks @Rankwatch for mentioning Pinterest. It is a great site to build your business branding and driving targeted traffic to your site. Links from this site are now no-follow but that doesn't matter much!

I found some image sharing sites that you can use for link building. I got this list from this blog : http://kaiserthesage.com/seo-for-photoblogs/
Some sites are similar to pinterest..(like the weheartit.com).

I haven't done thorough analysis of these sites..so really don't know which of these allows links and which are do-follow/no-follow..I have visited just a few randomly..!

Just as keywords are important in URL, the same goes for images.Keyword rich file name can help a search engine determine relevancy.Google already allows site owners to upload image sitemaps. Bing is working on allowing video sitemaps. When you submit images through sitemaps, you have the chance to let search engines know exactly where images are on your site along with vital meta data.
