Read this (it's amazing what is found by searching!).

By the way, you do realise that this section is about link development?

If the color of the text is the same as the color of the background, then to a human being, it is hidden.

So if you filled your blog pages with keyword phrases that are hidden text, then that text won't annoy the humans visitors because they don't see it.

But since the search engine spiders are reading the the html, then it will see/read this hidden text.

What the webmaster (who has hidden text) is trying to accomplish is to optimize the page for some keywords without showing the human a lot of trash.

But it is pretty easy for the robots to detect this - so what's the point?

    Hope this helps,

Hidden text is textual data which your visitors cannot see, but which is still readable by the search engines. The idea is to load a Web page with key-word and key-word phrases that would be unsightly to visitors but that would improve the page's rankings in the search engine results, and to do so without letting your visitors see the text. Hidden text is identified as search spam by each of the major search engines.

Well sometimes you try to think of fooling the search engine. You can put links on your website with while font or a font matching background of your website. In this way, the link you have added on your website can't be seen by anyone ;) However, BEWARE, search engines are not humans. For them, nothing is invisible. And they would find out what you are trying to do and may penalize you. Therefore, avoid using invisible text for links on your website ;)

The search engine crawler is made for reading the code or computer language which creates your complete website. Most of the spammer try to fool search engine by adding the content in white color on the white page and they think crawler will never detect such text on your website, but the forget that the search engine developers are too smart then they think. You can't hide single dot on your website.

Hidden text is a textual content which is embedded in HTML code. This content does not seen to visitors, but it is still readable by Search Engine.
Those that use hidden text believe that it can improve their page's, but sometimes it can cause serious penalty.
I highly recommend that please do not use this.

This is a "Black Hat" technique. Quite a few cheap sites use this tactic, which involves making keywords to be the same color as the background, so readers can't see the massive amounts of keywords, but search engine spiders can.

Search engine spider can read the hidden text on your website while visitors can not find them. That is extremely forbidden in the SEO.

Hidden text is textual content which your visitors cannot see, but which is still readable by the search engines. Hidden text can also be used to hide data from users who are less Internet-savvy or who are not familiar with a particular website.
