Not necessarily well known... Besides if you write for someone else, it is also categorized as guest blogging (Unless you take money for it of course)

 

It's posting an article on somebody's blog with a link back to your own blog. You do it by asking the owner of a blog if you could post on his blog. Make it a good article and you will get some traffic back to your own blog.
