I was thinking about getting hosting from mediatemple.net and they offer grid service. Is this just another way of saying shared hosting, if so why is it so much more expensive. PLease help me
It differs from standard hosting as it uses HA (High-Availability) clusters. So your site is not just hosted on a single server, it is hosted on a cluster of servers; often referred to as "cloud" computing. Bottom line, it's much more robust than standard hosting setups, that's why it costs more.
You should consider grid services only if you get high volume traffic in one day of the week and the rest are normal. Digg spikes for example. The grid service is designed to handle that spikes without crushing your site, otherwise it's too expensive for what you get.
Grid service is different that normal shared hosting coz it have many feature that shared hosting lack of such as redundant power supply etc.And its worth it if you're site is sometime only received huge traffic. If you're site constantly received huge traffic then i suggest you better purchase a dedicated server cost it more powerful than gs
Godaddy Grid Hosting is awesome - just $4.99 at the moment. I guess its a sale It sustaings 5k pageviews a day easily. Now thats really good compared to some Shared hosting. but Godaddy allows you to practically host only 1 site in this plan. Still not bad...
Grid refers to the hosting service where they host your site over a few servers rather than just one.
