Google sandbox* exists. Other people call it a penalty, but the fact is that new domains bounce around Google like crazy. I've developed dozens of websites and seen similar patterns with all of them. The length of time that you are sandboxed/penalised seems to depend greatly on how aggressive you are with link building. My longest time sandboxed was 6 months from November 2010 to May 2011. Other times it can last just a week or two and can be recurrent in the early months.

It is not Google "send box", it is called as sandbox. When any website performs any spamming activity to build back links or contains duplicate content, then it is sent in Google sandbox. To come out of this make your website's content completely original and build quality back links. After removing all spamming activities, send re-consideration request to Google through Google webmaster tools.

It referrer to sites that is restricted in some ways in performance, limiting their ability to do well in SERPs for certain/all search terms etc.

It is belived that Google sandbox exists.
Google blocks certain domains that does excessive promotion through blackhat seo methods and these domains are called to be pushed in sandbox.
Sandboxed domains do not get indexed and never get shownup in search results at all.
I heard stories about websites being in sandbox phase but never came across anyone that could get out of the sandbox, once in.

The Google Sandbox Effect is a theory used to explain why newly-registered domains or domains with frequent ownership changes rank poorly in Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). In other words new websites are put into a “sandbox” or a holding area and have their search ratings on hold until they can prove worthy of ranking. Once Google deems a website to be of quality and importance the website will be removed from the Sandbox and can potentially show up high in Google Search Engine Results Pages. Webmasters can do numerous things to improve their website with Google, but time really is the key in getting out of the Sandbox. Sandbox believers say it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year and sometimes longer before Google will promote a website out of the Sandbox.

Because Google does not acknowledge the Sandbox and it has not been clearly proven the Sandbox Effect is just a theory. Even though it is just a theory, the Sandbox is believed by the majority of webmasters. The Sandbox is believed to have come about in 2004 when changes to Google’s Algorithm made it so new websites were banned from the top of Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS).

As perGoogle sandbox effect, links which may normally be weighted by Google's ranking algorithm, not least improving the position of a webpage in Google's index, may be subjected to filtering to prevent their having a full impact. Some observations have suggested that two important factors for causing this filter to come into play are the active age of a domain, and the competitiveness of the keywords used in links.

The sandbox effect is a way for Google to constraint the effectiveness of SEOs to move new domains rapidly to the peak of SERPs.

Google Sandbox basically its a time period that keywords that are competitive must wait in order to achieve results on Google.

You mean Google Sandbox. Google doesn't trust new websites at first, so sometimes they are held back and stopped from ranking highly until Google deems the site to be trustworthy.
