When a site faces a Google penalty that may be due to many known and unknown reasons...a site is expelled out of the Google's index..this phenomenon is called as Google sandbox...although its unproved theory, evidences proves that sandbox exists and for sure its called differently inside Google:D

There is one more thing called 'dreaded sandbox' its the ranking drop after sudden boost that every new site has to face!..again unproved!

Whenever you submit your site in search engine due to too many sites, Google hold your site for some times and put your site in a place. The place called sandbox. Sandbox is a place where your site come first when you submit in search engine. It is like a clipboard of the computer.

a way for google to evaluate new websites. based on many variables google decides if this website should go down in the SERP or keep it out of the sandbox.

People who don't like to admit that they don't know anything like to blame it on the google "sandbox". People believe they know what they are doing and it cant possibly of any fault of their own so they need something to blame...so they say they have been sandboxed. There are so many different penalties and filters that can effect how a sites ranking can suffer. A new site can in fact rank just as high as any other website (matt cutts has confirmed this) and I have experienced this first hand.

There is a sandbox...but people like to throw it around as a general term for a "penalty"

Google SandBox is a delaying filter applied for newly indexed domains which will delay those particular domains from competing nor ranking high on commercial or competitive keywords.

Created in the main place to prevent spammers from dominating the search engines.

However, once the filter applied for any domain it could last from (1) Month to (6) Month's based on many factors.

Forget about it for the time been, and keep on promoting your website by building more quality backlinks and adding fresh unique content all the time.

If your website deserve to be ranked based on it's content and most importantly the backlinks profile..
    THEN IT WILL ;)

Hope i was clear and helpful.

There is no sandbox. Just get quality backlinks and don't mess around with directories and blog commenting.

Ditto. There is really no sandbox. Sandbox term was coined when google started giving more weightage to quality relevant links. Before it was like you get a new domain, purchase few links and you can rule the SERPs. In utter confusion SEOs thought that google puts all new domain in sandbox for some time.
However that is not the case. You get some good unique content, get decent links and you can get good rank.
