What is Google Pagerank ?

Hi,
I want to know that what is google pagerank and how we can increase our PR. What is importance of google pagerank. PageRank is better or Alexa Rank ?

 

it's google's algorithm for your link popularity. you never know your pagerank but google offers a replacement on it's toolbar ("toolbar Pagerank"/TBPR). toolbar pagerank is inaccurate but can give a fair idea of how popular your page is. It's a better metric than alexa rank but not by much. To increase your (real) PR you need to get quality links pointing to your site.

 

ITs nothing but google giving a rank for your site page according to its popularity

 

Both are important for any website. Based on your site popularity, PR will be decided by Google.

Cant compare since they are totally different, PR is based on link population but alexa ranking is based o traffic

 

Actually I like google PR more, because it is not based only to trafic, but mostly to link popularity. it is easy to get traffic with website for lifestyle and entertainment, but hardly when your website is business of financial. That is why google do not care about the number of visitors inside. Important for Google PR are many things, and we will not be able to mention all of them, but let me try some - link pointing to you, density of writing in your site, number of visitors coming to your website, thruough google and some more.

PR is counted by google and it is kinda important for you to rank well

But, actually, it's all about visitors, if you have a pr5 and you got 100 visitors a day, or you have a pr3 and you have 1000 visitors a day - what would you choose ? )

 

Don't focus too much on pagerank. It's nice to see a bit of green in the pagerank, but it's more important to rank well i SERPS.

 

You are almost right. Actually the most important is the type of your traffic and also the number of your traffic. If you want to sell houses, you will not need spam traffic, but maybe users who are ready to buy a house.
So finding of the main purpose of your site will show you how to develope it. Actually people will not search for buying ships, factories, houses in google. They will only see the price here in google, but will trust to someone in some specialized ezine. And to become specialized e-zine you will need from something more. Here is coming webdesign, mailing list, good partners and so on.
If you have website for adsense, the only thing you are interested in is traffic and the origin of it - if US GOOD!, if not - NOT BAD.

Alexa rank is totally based on traffic you are getting,and Google PR is based on your website popularity(No and Quality links) to your website.

 

all good points, Alexa ranking does nothing AT ALL and will not help you in ANY possible way.

I've seen some webmasters not link to you unless you have xxx Alexa ranking, Which is sort of silly.

It's also a poor way to gauge a sites popularity,because all technology sites have lower alexa ranks than they should, Because computer savvy people don't install Alexa's toolbar.


I thought PR was kind of directly related to how well you will do in SERPs? (New to this SEO stuff, go easy on me)

Page Rank is a number which shows your page strength . It's calculated by google on the basis of it's own algorithm which no one knows here . Yes PR is important upto some extent but don't waste your time on building PR for your site instead of that go for getting good BL for your site and try to get some good content for your site . I don't believe in this numbering strategy !

The Higher the rank, the higher the traffic and quality

 

Alexa rank is absolutly useless in my opinion so Google page rank is more important in my opinion, but to be honest I dont value Google page rank either really.

What matters is the amount of real traffic your site gets and the quality of that traffic, I dont care if a site has no PR at all aslong as it still ranks well in search engines in search terms that are important for that niche. Only people who should really care about Google PR are those who sell advertising on their site as this is ofen quite an important factor when it comes down to the price of advertising on the site.
