Google dance is an "old" term just to indicate that Google is updating its algo and that sites in the index are moving around during the update.
Google dance is a phase when google update it's algorithm and update the keyword position and pagerank of website.
Google dabe is a phase when there goes update in the Google algorithm and till the time the algo is not perfectly updated the keyword ranking keeps on changing every hour, the frequent changes in the keyword ranking is termed as "Google Dance"
I don't think google really dance.. the changes that happen on search results is totally normal.. considering that there are millions of sites on the net...
I think this thread shows that we don't know what Google does. I always thought the Google Dance was what hapened with new sites, they start off quite high in the rankings and then suddenly disapear for a while before coming back once they have matured.
The very usual changes in rankings in Google usually because of algorithm updates or people getting different results from different data centers...

In the real sense, there is nothing like Google dance. It is just term people use when Google start PR update, which leads to fluctuation of your website PR and backlink at the Google database. Due to fluctuation of PR during and after update, webmaster called it Google dance.
I think Google has did the "google dance' recently my website is in the first page of G right now. I hope it stays there but I think since it is a new website, it will probably disappear for awhile but I will find a way to come back up.. I know I will have to keep making good content and linking.
New sites go through the Google dance all the time. There are always people in forums, including this one, with new sites wondering why their site is jumping all around in the rankings.
