    It's a google software engineering term for a documented set of functions/methods/classes that developers can use to extend the functionality of an application.

    Did you copy that out of a dictonairy ? it is still greet to me! if the api works the same way like Youtube api or ccp api it cant be that difficalt to understand! What can you do with This Google Api?

    API is an application programmable interface. Basically, what it is is an interface that you can use to write code that connects to Googles applications, like Google maps and Google search for instance.

    One of the biggest uses I've seen of it is Google maps. If you have seen a map on a classified ads website that gives little ticks to show the location of certain items for sale, that would be a good example of a Google API.

    Another common Google API is Google checkout. If you use Checkout to sale items or services on your site, the buttons that you use that say "Buy Now" are API's. (same thing with paypal)

    Google has different API's. If you're looking for the API that gives you information on the search results, that's the Google SOAP API. They don't give those out anymore though. The only way to get one of those is to get it from someone who already has one, and they're generally going to make you buy it from them.
