    Google API allows you to extend Google's offerings. For example, you can design your own Google Maps - any way you like using API. The ProgrammableWeb directory lists 93 Google APIs.

    In a very simple word, apps lunched by google is known as API. Such as Gtalk, Google maps, Google places etc.
