What Is Google API and and what is it's uses?

    I have listened many times about the google API but i am not getting the exact idea of google API and it's uses.

    API stands for Application programming interface,
    This interface is provided by the Google (of itself) for the developers to interact with their google's service, like Gmail, or google documents etc... you can use the Google's api to download your mails or the contact lists from gmail.
