What is going on?

Since I started one of my sites a year ago, I had a steady climb to the top. In that time, Google would only visit on a handful of occassions per week. In the last three days my log files are showing 1612 visits by their bot(s) and yet I continue to spiral downwards... Anyone else having similar experiences?

after my main site tanked in December I removed a lot of stuff that could be considered bad and emailed Google alot.

Then a week ago I got A LOT of spidering and most pages are in serps and I have some of my placings back

    all except my home page

    just a url

    nothing else

it's all very very odd indeed

Over the end of last week and the weekend gbot hit my site constantly to the tune of over 3000 hits over several days. When it started I had 98 pages in the index. That's way less than half of the site. Now it's reporting 75 pages and my stats reflect a lot less traffic from google. I don't know what the hell is going on!

Hasn't happened to me, but just wondering if your site has pages with similar content??

Also, there has been an update in the last week. It is quite possible that your PR has gone down due to either losing some BLs OR the fact that some of the pages where your BLs are placed have now got a lower PR, hence passing less PR to your site.

Just my opinion, although there can be lots of other reasons why your site's rankings are dropping.

I think Google is redrawing its map of the web again in rediness for another big shift. This seems to have been the pattern now for a few updates.

I've taken a bad hit from Google too, but thank goodness MSN and Yahoo have improved for me. I'm trying very hard to just let it be while I see if this one lasts for more than a few weeks. It's so hard to hold back that reflex to make changes! I've settled for adding content and reminding myself that my income hasn't been hit - it's up in fact, so my drop in Google only matters a little.

Except that I want it back!
