What Is Globalization?

Excerpt from the speech of UN Secretary General Kofi Anan at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on January 31, 1998.

..."The advent of a global economy may seem irresistible and inevitable. To many it has brought great riches. To others it seems exclusionary, exploitative, intrusive and even destructive.

...We must remember that globalization has not just happened; it has been the result of deliberate policy choices..."

How do you look at globalization today? Kofi Anan said those words 11 years ago.

Globalization is what got us into this economic mess in the firs place. Basically, rich corporations can move jobs to third world nations where there are not laws to protect the environment and the labor they employ.
