    FTP (File Transfer Protocol) account is allow you to transfer files form your local pc to hosting server.

    FTP account could be create through your hosting control panel.
    Hope this brief information will be good enough to know about FTP account.

    You will need to upload certain files into your site directory right? Well, to access your site directory, you will need to log into your server. You use your FTP (File Transfer Protocol) account for that. You can get that account while signing up with a server.
    Why don't you check out the wikipedia link in the post above me if you need more information on FTP?

    FTP Stands for File Transfer Protocol. This tool is useful for downloading files and then uploading them to your website. You will find it helpful for Wordpress blogs as well.

    FYI...I use filezilla as an FTP software. It is free and it gets the job done.
