what is forum signatures

each time talk about backlink, got someone talk about forum signatures, what is forum signatures? can some one use simple method explain to me? thank

 

u put a link and anchor text to a website of your choice each time u post. click on your username. go to user cp, under Settings & Options click edit signature.

Signatures are not required it's just a place for people to give off free advertisement to their websites or other sites they go to, People just put something there to make themselves look cool and junk...
