My account with hundreds of unpaid dollars was closed. There response was 'Ok I got some info on your account and there are notes that your account was firing pixels illegally' Code (markup): Any idea to what that means? Thanks
It basically means you or someone else used a method where you were credited for leads that weren't actually generated. A pixel being triggered after someone enters their credit card, zip their email, etc. is generally how leads are tracked. However, there are illegal ways to get the pixels to trigger without a user doing anything. That's what you are accused of.
A pixel is an invisible image that appears on the confirmation page when the user completes an action. What they are accusing you is of somehow manipulating the pixels so that they appear even if no action was generated by the user.
Some offers fire on the first page, and this is what we are always looking for. Normally it fires after the visitor has performed the Action (as in Cost Per Action) that the merchant wants. Examples of actions can be email submit, zip submit, purchasing an item, entering a valid CC number, entering a valid phone number etc... Tell them that if you know pixel firing, you will be a rich programmer, not a poor IMer. I think they are trying to accuse you so that you don't get you deserved commission.
Firing pixels illegally is a serious offense. Although it’s very rare, it’s totally possible. How can this happen? Well, the person could be doing it intentionally or the tracking used by the network somehow messed up, it could even be at the advertisers level. If you are innocent of the accusation, then I would come up with as much proof that your promotions you can gather. Document everything. But, if you are really doing this... then you should have your account closed. Those kinds of things hurt our industry.
