In case you have a marketing budget to spend, Adwords or YPN are certainly the fastest way to get large volumes of really targetted traffic.
Which begs the question - has anyone had (verifiable) success in leveraging social bookmarking (who invented that term???) for traffic?
Try to use crossposting and post short announces of your posts on established blogging platforms as livejournal, blogspot etc.
Not being in a position to agree or disagree with your opinion, could you expand on it? As in, explain the reasoning behind why they "suck"?
For generic submission sites, I'd suggest a quick Google of "pr submissions" and "article submissions" (you'll also find that a lot of classic link directories accept article submissions also, so you can do two at once). As for lists of "good" ones, that I can't help with ... but I'm a taker if anyone has some.
IMO they suck for backlinks, but the thing about article site is that sites like ezinearticles get very nice treatment from google. At least a few do. Most of them still really aren't worth the time, especially if you're going to post duplicate content. So ezinearticles isn't great for getting your link ranked, but it's good to get the article ranked and hope that the readers click through to your site instead of the 3902432 google ads they run.
Forum posting, relevant of corse is very quick. But most free ways of increasing traffic are very time consuming. Adwords is the quickest way to increase traffic but obviously its very expensive. SEO for the long run is your best option, try spending your time on this rather than writing articles, posting on forums etc as this will only benefit you in the short run. LIYD
Do social bookmarking, put link to your signatures on forums, especially on those with similar content with yours, build links to rank better on Google....
Really appreciate the comments, thanks! Thanks - at last a reasoned opinion Given my noob retardedness, how do you know what constitutes a good article site and a bad one? Do you have any favorites? Which boils down to optimizing content? And making sure it's good?
Write lots of quality content on your website and submit some of your interesting stories on social networks
