Hi what is domain registration. Why do we have to pay for it? What is the difference between buying a domain and registering a domain?

Buy domain name is part of it. Registration is listing who you are or company who owns it. You have to do both to register domain names.

I would say it's the same: buy a domain = register a domain. You simply pay and get a new domain name of your choice.

However, you can also buy domain names that are already registered and someone is selling them. E.g. I could sell you one of my domains. For new domains, you visit a domain registrar a register (buy) a new domain name.

Registering a domain is a fresh registration, buying a domain could also mean buying from some one else

Hi what I don't understand is who owns the domain name in the first place and when we register, who does the money go to?
