Please don't laugh As one might guess from the title---I am a rookie on internet business. I can see that Directory submission is the most favorite job --people do. I want to know-- 1) What is a directory ? 2) What is directory submission? 3) Where to find assignments and where to submit? I'll highly appreciate all who would be kind enough to enlighten me on these puzzles and help me. Thanks in advance.
Hi and welcome to DP. A direction is basically a collection of links. One of the biggest ones if dmoz.org. If you have trouble understanding what it is, I suggest reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_directory. Directory submission is a service where someone will submit your url (website) to a number of directories. This will help you gain a small amount of traffic, but more importantly, quality backlinks for increased search engine rankings. A small list (when compared to the number of directories) can be found at: http://www.seocompany.ca/directory/free-web-directories.html and http://www.directorylist.org/ Good luck and again, welcome to DP.
Thanks drig and adsencer Now I know little bit about what is a directory and how it works. But I reckon I must read and learn more before I can really earn!
Jhnrang, you might have understood what a directory is from drig. Also let me tell you that the market is pretty fiercely competitive. There are many people doing directory submission and you have to go that extra yard to establish yourself. The profits depend on how much you pay your staff to submit- so in a way, it depends on the wage rate in your country. There will always be people ready to try out your service, but I think you must sit and do some research before opening a submission service as you are new in the market.
Just like any business theres ways to diversify and find a niche where you can gain a client base. Whether that speciality is superiror quality, cheap, an incredibly long list, more title rotation then anybody else, monthly subscription (for new dirs) etc. you need to find a way to distinguish yourself from your competitors.
