Many of the same techniques can be used to promote blogs and websites. But I would say it's easier to integrate social media into blogs. It's easier to get people to share blog posts on Twitter, FB, etc. than an article on a website. Since blogs tend to be more interactive (with comments) and are typically more "casual" in style, people are more likely to share it with others. You can also use RSS feeds to promote a blog. Although a standard website can be promoted through social media as well, it's not as easily integrated... Each has pros and cons, but I would say a blog would be used if you're taking a more "informational approach" to creating revenue. If you're selling a product or service (and ads aren't your primary focus), then a standard website probably works better. Just my 2 cents...

Actually there's a big difference on website promotion and blog promotion. Blog promotion is relatively easy as compare to the website. Because you can get easily lot of traffic without more effort if content of your blog is valuable.
I agree...Most of the online tactics I know can be used to promote blogs or websites. A Bog with updated content will be alot easier to rank in the search engines then a static website. Also using adwords you might be less likely to get google slapped if you are using adwords to promote a blog instead of a website squeeze page or sales letter. Overall most online traffic methods can be used to promote both.
You probably wouldn't use pinging as much with a static website was you would with a blog. Also there are certain aggregator sites specifically set up for blogs.

I don't see any difference in promoting a website and blog. The promotion techniques whether on-page or off-page that we apply to a blog can be applied to a website as well
