Dear All DP Members; Sorry for naive question. but it is unclear for me what is CPM is. I googled the word and I knew that it is the abbreviation for Cost per Impression and usually advertisers are selling their CPM inventory by selling 1000 impressions per X amount of money. My question is. If for example a visitor had browsed 10 pages on the same website and the advertisement appeared on each page from those 10 pages does this visit will count as a single impression or 10 impressions? Hope I was clear enough on my question. Regards,
It will count as 10 impressions. The thing is impressions doesn't have to be unique. But that doesn't mean it isn't effective, surveys show that it usually takes a consumer to see that same ad 7 times before any purchase is made.
Thank you Maria very much for your assured replay. I am subscribed to an affiliate network and I am using their banners for advertisement on my website. The total banner’s impressions on my affiliate network control panel are 2000 for last month. While same banner’s impressions on my own website (Joomla website) is showing 10000 for the very same period. What you people think is the reason/s for this huge difference? I really appreciate your help. Regards,
Hi, One of the reasons of this difference could be how much does the visitor spend on your site. What will happen is, your site will count one impression when a request is received by it to serve the banner. while your affiliate network will count that impression only when the image gets fully loaded on the site. If your visitors are closing your page/site in between the above two mentioned instances, it will result in a mismatch. I hope I clarified your query...
You got it right CPM is cost per impression , unlike cost per click, here its number of impressions and it need not be impressions from unique user because ususally a repeated visitor may reach your site via the ad run via CPM and he might tend to go through the route till he bookmarks or buy anything from your website as per CPM surverys
