CMS = Content Management System. As the name says, it helps you manage your content (your website).

Content Management Systems doesn't have to be prebuilt like Joomla, etc. you (a programmer really) can create your own. For instance at my design company we don't use any kind of pre-built CMS software but we design/program new ones from scratch to fulfill our client needs. Hope that helps

    regards

CMS - content management systme is the database driven website, with admin access to control your front content. Generally Search enginees like websites having content change periodically. By using CMS a non-technical persion can change websites with easy user interface (MS-word like). CMS can be finf as a opensource like Joomla, or one can develop his own too with a knowledge of database and programming.

In simplest terms - it is a system to manage your site's content.

It can have a fully featured admin backend, or just a front end that makes you add values to the tabase directly. It could be database driven, or powered by XML or text files.

It can be created in pretty much any language - PHP, ASP.NET, ColdFusion or even C++ - control the database from a windows application.

Joomla is best for marketing site with lots of options and good seo but with a bit of work
WordPress is best for blog with good seo but limited content growth without some work
Drupal is good for both but a bit technical

    I'd go with Joomla

cmses vary. wordpress is probably the most customizable, accessible and easy to use.

there are thousands of free and paid wordpress themes on the net and you can also get one designed custom.

Same with joomla, but there are less as joomla is less popular
