What is Cloaking?

Can any one explain me what is cloaking and what are the different kinds of cloaking. Is this a black hat technique? Search engines agreed this concept or not?

 

Cloaking is a black hat techniques that experts use in search engine optimization to promote their sites. it's not good effort because as far as i know, content presented to the search engine spider is different from presented to the user's browser. means, try to show other things to user and anything else to search engine crawler. cloaking is used to deceive the search engines so they display the page when it would not otherwise be displayed.so, search engine count it as black hat seo techniques and can ban the website or penalize the website.

 

Yes, it is blackhat technique to show different page to search engine bots compared to visitors.

I have a different view. Why can't we use cloaking for good things.

Showing different information for people from different geographic locations in the same page?

I mean cloaking for human beings and not for spiders. Whats your thought?

If you're just simply redirecting a url like with tinyurl then that's no biggie. But with cloaking it may create problems with the search engines, especially if done with melicious intent.
