I am not sure I understand your question. The way I see the term channel data used most often is in regard to using Adsense. Say if you have Adsense showing on four sites, site1, site2, site3, and site4. You can set up four different channels with Adsense so when you look at your daily statistics you can show which web is receiving the clicks. On a single site you can set up channels to show what clicks are coming from what folders or pages. People often use channels to help determine best color schemes and placements of their Adsense ads.
