I think you're referring to bounce rate...if not then disregard this. Bounce rate is how long a visitor stays on your site. If you're talking about the two sites in your sig then what I would suggest is to expand on your blog and social networking efforts (more followers and fans). Use your blog to post more articles and social networking to link to those articles. You may have a better chance getting potential customers more interested in your fresh content from a blog then directly to your main sites. By the time they get to your main sites I think they're more into a "shopping around for services mindset", and will quickly leave and check out the next option just to compare.
Google defines the bounce rate as the percentage of people that are visiting a single page or the visits in which the person left the site right from the landing page. Also, what is interesting and also strange is that Google uses this rate of output in determining the quality of websites. This means that a high bounce rate of a page means that the page doesn't have relevant content.
