What is Black Hat / White Hat?

    I have heard many people refer to Black Hat / White Hat techniques to earn money here on DP. What are they and what do they mean?

    "White Hat" refers to ethical and legal methods that are generally considered "good".

    "Black Hat" refers to unethical means such as spamming, cloaking, and other methods that are generally frowned upon.

    Method of gaining traffic from search engines. Traditionally black hat = bad guy, white hat = good guy. Basically black hats do whatever tricks necessary to do well, whereas white hats stick to the books and follow search engine's webmaster guidelines.

    Note: I'm not saying blackhat's are bad people, only that they don't play by the same rules as whitehats.
