Wanted to get some public opinion on this one if you could take the time. I have two domain names and 100 articles. My question is, do you feel (for search engine indexing and ranking) it is better: to have 100 articles on one site with two domains pointing to identical content. OR to have the articles split into two sites with one domain each. I wasn't sure which way i should go but wanted to utilize both domains...some of my thoughts were, I could try two different keyword groups or two different ad placement strategies, or have a single site with 100+ pages of content.
well imo it's pretty similar. Actually if you have 2 websites from 2 different niches (ie: games - the other for pet), it can be good in some way but they are independant from each other. Anyway you will have to work on both or on the same one -- same amount of work. Search engines like important websites. Why would you spit a big one in 2 small ?
It always better to focus on one domain, splitting your marketing budget between two domains is effectively halving your buying power. Any linsk you get will be focused on one domain raising the authority much more effectively. The only times you should split into two domains is when you want to keep the branding different or two topics are completely unrelated.
My money goes into giving all the importance to one site have different folders for different niche if they are related if the niches are not related then go in for different domains 2 domains will need that much more time for optimisation and designing efforts
Focus on just one bigger, better site. As cashisfilthitakecheck said, if you have 2 domains you will have to market/design/optimize 2 sites. If you have succes with one site ( make some money with it, and gain some experience ) you could then try another niche. That's my 2 cents.
I'm going to disagree. I like to build small networks of sites, with bigger plans. Let's be honest, most of the easy link building, the stuff that gets you a few thousand incoming links are pretty easily replicatable. You can always get directory entries for as many sites as you can come up with, etc. Where the real difficulty comes in, is once you're past 5,000 incoming links, you have to get more creative. But, if you had lets say a dozen sites, and you go after each of those easy 1,000 links, you could very easily have a total of 12,000 incoming links. The work needed to get the dozen sites 1,000 links a piece is generally easier than the work needed to get one website from lets say 5,000 links to 12,000 links. Make sense? Then eventually you can start to 301 redirect to your main site. Also I've found that it's easier to create 3 way link exchanges when you have more than one site that you can trade with. If you have a relevant site that I would like to link to my site, I might offer you two links from 2 of my sites, if you link to a third site. See how that can be helpful? So, my vote is multiple sites with a plan to eventually combine them all. MR
