Hi...i am fairly new to this. I am an affiliate manager with a recently launched Affiliate Program. Wanted to know what is good on a long term basis...SEO or PPC ?...i have heard that they go well hand in hand....SEO might be slow but really beneficial for a lenthy period..but PPC ensures high conversion & faster revenue generation..
Would appreciate any insight on the same friends...also how does one go about doing both together in a planned manner.

    Thanks

    Seo...

If you are targeting a competitive niche you CTR will be very expensive, I would use PPC while you are performing SEO.

    Thanks Brian

As the guys above say SEO should be your long term target whereas you can use PPC as a short term measure to drive traffic to your site while the SEO takes time to take affect.

Pay per click, advertising in general, is far better than search engine traffic. Hell, the two doesn't even compare.

Besides, you FIRST have to be lucky enough to even land on first page to be seen.

Just because you do the seo does not mean you will land high enough to be seen.

Next, many of the items webmasters try to sell, potential customers go to the store. For example, why should I do a search on, say, shoes, when I can just go to the mall and buy a pair?

If you are lucky enough to land high, you are relying on potential customers to come to you, which many won't. But with ads, you can go straight to them, time after time after time.

Also, most search engine traffic is notorious for hopping from site to site, not buying anything.

Funny thing is...people who do not know how to advertise will say search engine traffic is better, and on top of that, their site isn't even found in a search, so they don't know anyway. heh heh

SEO is better than PPC. But if you have a lot of money, PPC is oke. Try to play with both of them.

There is no doubt. SEO is better, cos you can get free traffic. But PPC is good for a new site that is not yet trusted by Google.

SEO - Expensive, time consuming, relatively less conversion

PPC, fast result, expensive too, highly targeted visitors.

    :) you decide

I agree. From my experience, if you're selling stuff, you can't beat the highly targeted nature of PPC advertising. And that's coming from a professional SEOer!

I don't think it should be a complete replacement for SEO though, but should certainly go hand in hand.

Work out how much you're willing to spend on each lead, make your landing page punchy and target your ads straight to your target market.

Of course, do both at the same time. SEO turnes out to be more expensive for me, while in PPC I can control expenses in a better way.

SEO is free, if you are working on a non-competitive keyword, SEO can bring you a lot of benefit.
Either way, PPC is also good if you can maintain a good percentage of ROI.

    Good Luck

Different types of strategies give different results in terms of time. Seo turnes out to be more expensive for me, while PPC allows better control over costs.

Both of them provide targeted traffic but PPC might cost you alot. Therefore, suggest go for SEO, it provide long term traffic with much lower cost

    I agree with lifeplayer.

I mean, indeed the PPC will bring you quick results (traffic), but what if you will be charged let's say $50 just to gain one member of your site, who's gonna pay, of course, something like $29.95?

You don't have to be a genius to realize that you won't make any profit.

And yes, this is my experience with PPC; I was charged way more than I earned, just because not every person who clicked my PPC ad became a member.

    Hi,
Both SEO and PPC have pros and cons. SEO will give you a solid grounding and will attract more foothold on the search engines. You can get instant returns from PPC but if you don't master your PPC and spending, it can get very expensive.
There are many SEO ways of getting found quickly on google, like using free blogs that point to your website, Small informative videos that you can submit to all the video hosting sites like youtube, as well as article marketing. To gain a foothold on SEO, you have to provide fresh and useful content. You can also repurpose your content by turning your articles into videos and podcasts, as well as rewriting your articles.
Either way, both still require a learning curve. Even if you want to subcontract the work of getting traffic to your website, it still helps to know how everything works.

I use PPC to test something fast, and if it works then SEO.
