Hi all, I would like to know one thing: what is better for long term traffic? My own article directory (e.g. a blog or site), or through big name article directories, like ezinearticles.com? Does anyone around here have their own organic traffic article directory? I would like this question to be answered in terms of Page Rank and longevity at a certain page rank. Thanks, Dim.
I don't want to give the domain but we have used our own "article directory" and are pretty happy with the result. Although we do still use ezines for instant traffic, and new backlinks occasionally - always good to use multiple sources. Our article directory is just a simple wordpress blog. The first 2-3 months were slow, but after 4 months (ish) it reached pr2, and now gets 400+ visits a day. To get to this stage we posted 5+ articles there a week, with a rewritten article of each spun to several other article directories all linking back to the main article on our blog. This helped get a lot of backlinks with relevance, and to increase the pr and popularity of the site in Google. It now ranks pretty well for new articles. A new article can reach google page 1 and stay there pretty quickly for keywords which are low to medium in competition (usually 3 to 4 string keywords). Hope this helps, I think there is value of having the master post on a site you own rather than an article directory, but it does take more work, and we do still use the article directories, and other methods for traffic generation. Dan
Not clickbank, we use this to drive traffic to a vendor site we own which sells multiple products, its hard to estimate but the click through on the articles is probably 7%ish (some articles are better quality than others) and the actual conversion on that traffic arriving on our website is 3%(ish), so yes it does make sales, but that will always vary on your ability to write effective articles. While building the "directory" up a lot of the articles were poor quality really - just to get the pages up and get some content on there quick. I'm sure if you made real quality articles and did everything really well it would be better... obviously
Thanks for the reply. Do you direct link from the article on the blog to your vendor site, or do you link to a landing page and then to your vendor site? THANKS!
Direct, no need for another landing page, essentially the blog post is the landing page - its full of articles like "how to ....." ".... in 3 easy steps" etc
Very nice information. I was also thinking on these lines since writing for someone would not end up in any long term results. Further the PPC income from such a site is the bonus.
