    Agreed on that one.

Although they both pretty much suck, you might as well do both.

Both SEO and Email Marketing take time.( If you want to do it right) Although you could see quicker results from E-mail marketing. Say if you roll out a PPC campaign, point it to a well-tested squeeze page and collect thousands of targeted e-mails, you can really start making a decent income well before your SEO efforts will show up in the SERPS.

I would say they are quite different - it's like asking which is best cherries or carrots - it depends what sort of pie you're making.

SEO is probably applicable to all pages on the web - so many product or service buys are started by a search on the (only?) major search engine(s).

My experience is that email works better for some products than others and requires something special - We used to get our best responses when we made our best offers and it was an impulse buy.

So 1. SEO 2. (maybe) email marketing :)

Like some have said, there's no reason you shouldn't do both. But over the long run, I say email marketing IF you've built your own list, and IF you've actually built a relationship with them instead of just pitching offers at them.

A lot of the "email marketing is dead" stuff is coming from the experiences of people who've abused email marketing by promo-ing their list to death. The people who still see success with it are the people who split between educating and building rapport with their customers, and an occasional targeted promotion.

The diffrence between SEO and (properly done) email marketing is the difference between selling to a stranger who called you out of the phone book and selling to someone who already knows you and trusts you.

    Hi,
In my opinion, SEO is way better than e-mail marketing, you should work on SEO until you reach the first page of Google. Then make sure that you have a subscribe option so that you can create a mailing list. I vote for SEO because in email marketing people may mark you as scammer but in SEO they are the one who choose to come to your website.

SEO is the winner for me. I feel its better for your visitors/customers to come to you rather than you going to them. Better quality that way aswel

SEO is best in my opinion. People do not like to get a lot of emails, too many emails will turn them aganist you.

Email Marketing is part of Viral marketing

SEM , Search Engine Marketing is part of Search Engine Opimization

AIM of the first one is promotion
AIM of the second one is natural promotion

For first few years you can rely on both
But if the second one is very well in place then you leverage your efforts in first , less efforts in emails then

As your website is naturally on top of search engines so you have to relax and enjoy the traffic and so called conversions based on your business model

it really depends on the situation of the site and the marketing that you are doing. they both are needed and can play off each other. But I would say you need e-mail marketing before you can get seo but thats for my type pf business.

Definitely SEO. Its what the search engines love and it doesn't end up getting your site placed on the spam black list. Buying so called "opt-in" email lists are usually spam and dangerous to play with.

Not to mention, most people, I being one of them, delete email that didnt come from someone I know or personally asked for so you're usually wasting your money.

If you own your own list of opt-in, thats a bonus because your clients / members will be expecting something they've already wanted from you ;)
