What is better? Email marketing or SEO?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by datamaster26, Apr 7, 2009.

Hey guys, I know this is a rather broad topic, but a lot of people want to know...

And i know the answer already... I just want to see how other people look at it... Proper email marketing with optin, coreg, or survey leads is faster at making your site come up in the rankings... but are the rankings really what is important?

Or, at the end of the day... isn't it the total sales you've generated more important?

Just a thought for discussion. At data4marketers.com we supply all of the optin data that's going around, and our clients are steady: meaning they wouldn't keep doing it if there wasn't good value in what they're doing.. Yes, we do sell coreg data below industry rates, and there is value in doing so, but we also carry the largest selection of data available.

Now, if you can do SEO real good... how long does it take to get things started where you would be happy with the income you generate? 3 months? 6 months? A lot of companies can't wait for this kind of wait for a turn-around. Let me hear some optinions...

    Thanks,

Before you can get an authentic email list, you got to have targeted visitors first. Search engine traffic is still the best way to get targeted visitors.

Although of course, you can still get some clients from social sites such as Twitter. But then, it may take awhile.

for me email marketing only works for personal use,it is bad if someone bought email list from somebody else and use the list to promote irrelevant advertising and sometimes the ads is the same over and over again

I would say SEO, you need to have a page optimized even if it's email marketing

Both of them considered as targeted traffic but traffic from search engine will provide higher conversion rate. Therefore the answer is SEO.

By the way, why dont use both???

SEO is way better than e-mail marketing. But the best thing is to engage in both, work on seo until you reach the first page of google.

Then make sure that you have a subscribe option so that you can create a mailing list. :D

How does this give you ranking to move your site up?

When selling a product, it isn't important, because most who come in from search engines are looking for free stuff, which is one of the reasons why search engines are highly overrated.

Don't you first have to bring in the visitors to make those sales? Isn't that the most important thing?

You talk as if one does the seo, it is guaranteed that the webmaster will land high enough in a search.

    It isn't.

It is all about being lucky.

If the webmaster is indeed lucky enough, it doesn't mean a lot of sales will be made off of those type of visitors. Again, most, if not practically all are looking for free stuff, they are also window shoppers, and, they are bored, hopping from site to site.

Yet another reason why search engines are highly overrated.

Which is better? E-mail marketing or seo?

Not to say that e-mail marketing is good, because it is not, but it is still better than seo. By far.

You don't have to use your own list. Why not advertise through other people's lists? For the same price you pay for Pay Per Click, you could reach over 500,000 people based on your niche with a solo ad, i.e. your ad being the only one seen when sent out.

This is your business. Are you more concerned about page ranking or getting targeted customers that actually buy from you?

I would give a vote for SEO, however it takes time to produce desired output but you must wait for the good results minimum 3 months, it may exceed to 6 months depending upon the keyword and business competitions.
BTW, Email marketing is another good option but what i felt in recent days it provides hits but not much provide that much conversions what i need to have. and it also causes to increase the bounce rate of your website...
Finally SEO would be the best for you....

I vote for seo because in email marketing people may mark you as scammer but in seo they are the one who choose to come to your website.

Here is the way I look at it: SEO brings you traffic, and Email Marketing enables you to make BETTER USE of said traffic. But obviously, the caveat here is that you are marketing to subscribers that you acquired from the traffic that came as a result of your SEO efforts. Both of them should go hand-in-hand.

The ONLY TIME you rely on email marketing without SEO is when you target someone else's email list (i.e. in a Joint Venture arrangement).

The opposite, my friend. Your long-term profits reside... not in your SEO... but in your email list. SEO is near-useless if you are not using the results you are getting from your SEO to build your email list.

Remember: the search engines always change their algorithms and there is every chance your websites could loose rank at best and, at worst, get DE-INDEXED! When that happens, what have you got left if you haven't already made efforts to build your email list while your website was still ranking higher?

Building a list of email subscribers should always be central to every marketing effort you commit yourself to.

Even though it is said that "the money is in the list", you first need to make sure you are generating your list with proper opt-in and not just bought it from someone.

If you have your email list building with your SEO efforts that will be the real icing on the cake. Of course, email marketing can give you better conversion if you have proper targeted email list build up but i guess it will take time.
