What is better a Shared hosting or a dedicated server?

    Hello friends,

    I have a question...

What is better for a website with 5000 unique visits a day? A shared hosting or a dedicated server. Of course a dedicated server is better than a shared hosting (I've more control of my files, unique ip, etc), but maybe for a website with 5000 unique a day a shared hosting is right (much less $$$ )...

The website is not big deal only information and photo gallery.

    Thanks,
    Jakomo

Well it depends on the overall hosting service and how they handle the shared server. They might just bang too many people on one shared server which will cause slow speed especially for a site of your traffic.

Depending on your budget i would say a dedi... :)

shared hosting is enough, i just bought hostgator's hosting today, 10$ per month for 600gb space and 6tb bandwidth, it's great :D you should take it too =)

Shared or a VPS would be enough for you.

VPS and dedicated servers don't dpend on other clients so you'd better take that for ultimate uptime.

    Hello,
    Thanks very much!

The pages are dynamic, getting data from MYSQL Database :), I mean all the pages come from the database...

Yes, I was thinking about hostgator share hosting with an dedicated IP... What do you think ?

Right now I've a dedicated server, but I think is too much for this site....

If you're looking for cheaper solution, I'd recommend you a VPS for stability. Buy a Managed one, if you aren't familiar with managing them.

If you are looking for a cheaper solution I would suggest you to opt for a VPS initially. You can upgrade to a Dedicated server later as per the site requirements.

It is not really a matter of what is better. It is more about what is better suited for handling you needs.

When thinking in terms of your "needs", think in terms of raw data transfer, not the number of hits... Hits/Visits mean nothing. It is the level of traffic and processor time that tell a good host what exactly your site will need.

Of course another advantage to a dedicated server is the total control you can achieve. You have more freedom and control vs. a shared environment.

If you can give me an indication of your traffic needs, I can better determine if you need a dedicated server or shared hosting account. Thank you!

    Jakomo,

Virtual Private Servers are a better suggestion if you do not wish to run them on a dedicated server. The main reason is that it can provide you features more such as a dedicated server for a lesser specification and budget. :)
