Let`s first look out how search engines work. With the millions of website on the internet, maybe even billions. Google and other search engines need to know what these sites are about in order to sort them for the end user. When users use search engines to find sites, they use keywords in the search box to find sites related to their keywords. So for example, if a user searches dog training then they obviously they are looking for sites related to dog training. If your site is about dog training then you would want to have the keyword dog training through out your web page. It is important to have your keywords in your page titles, tags and the description of your web page. I suggest not to overkill on the keywords on your page , because that could be a bad thing for your ranking. Google sees that as spammy. When the search engine user performs the search for dog training, the google spiders will know your site is relate to their search. Now this is called on page SEO. Finding keywords with low competition is the tricky part of SEO. The example dog training is a broad keyword term, finding keywords with lower competition is what you really want to get higher search engine rankings. Example: instead of dog training your could use large dog training tips. That is just an example of what I mean, by not so board keyword term. Longtail keywords will usually have less competition. There is also off page SEO. This has to do with backlinks to your site. If you have backlinks from other related sites and or high page rank sites the search engines see this as a good thing. If other sites are linking to your site for your keywords, this lets google know that your site is known for that keyword and people a pretty much vouching for you site that it has content related to your keyword. The benefits of doing On Page and Off Page SEO will give your site natural organic traffic in the search engines. If you set your site up with these stategies you will see traffic to site. Just want to point out that there is no such thing as enough traffic, so other methods of promoting your site should be taken as well. Paid traffic could get you that traffic you want now, but by doing SEO from the start you will see traffic from your efforts soon down the road and it can continue for years.
