What is battleofalberta.ca worth?

    Hi,

I have someone interested in buying a domain from me and I don't have a clue what to ask for so any help would be appreciated.

    http://battleofalberta.ca/

It first appeared in the internet archive March 2003. I bought it earlier this year [it was expired].

The term is highly marketable and well known in my region [Alberta, Canada] since we have two main cities that compete for everything, but mostly the term is used for sports. My plan was to expand the definition to include politics and business, but I have not done anything with the site.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Alberta

This region is an extremely weathly area as it contains what is now believed to be the largest oil reserve in the world, so economic expansion should continue for a long while in the province of Alberta.

It has a couple quality links pointing at it, I expect it will be PR3 or 4 the next time Google updates.

It shows up at #7 on Google for the term "Battle of Alberta" and gets about 5 visitors a day at this point.

Any thoughts...I probably will never get to developing, but I don't want to just give it away either.

    Thanks,

    JS

i definitely think about the FLAMES vs. the OILERS here. :)

was there an amount tied to the offer/interest?

Nope, they asked me to give my price. That's what I would do if I was serious but it's harder if you're the seller...I have no idea what they'd be willing to pay.

    you're right.

well, time to suggest a price and see what happens.

    * usually if someone contacts you "out of the blue," they are willing to pay a little more - than "what" i don't know.

if you're only into it for reg fee, than maybe a few hundred bucks might be a start?

    just my 2 cents :)

    keep us posted.

Just found this in the Sedo newsletter:

if the average is $6000 then I'm thinking more like 2k for this one? Probably I'm dreaming but I'm not begging for anyone to buy it either.

for the right end-user - sure.

but for someone who is "just interested" - it won't fetch 2K

    IMHO

    good luck!

    You're right.

I asked for 1500 and he said it was too much for him right now. He just wanted to blog about Hockey...not a serious developer.

I decided not to risk asking for a low amount...it would have killed me to find a "yellow pages" redirect on there if I sold it for $200 :(

I'd take the 200 bucks. I live in canada and have never heard of 'battle of alberta' - and I'm not exactly ignorant about geography :)

Actually, 'battle of alberta' was searched on overture 68 times
last month. Based on that, I'd be glad to get 200 bucks for it.

Have you ever heard of the Calgary Flames or the Edmonton Oilers?...stick them in Overture....I'm guessing you're not too much of a hockey fan.

You can get kicked out of Canada for that you know :)

Hockey is big here...just look on wikipedia LOL

Domain Value: Mid $xx to High $xx
Why: As you yourself said, this domain represents the Battle of Alberta. So yes.
Development Idea: If you decide not to sell this domain name, develop it into a Battle of Alberta online library and discussion portal, if you can spend some money, get an online Game developed that is based on the storyline!
Selling advice: Sell this domain to that person

    $50 undeveloped.

Another development idea is to provide comprehensive info on the battle of alberta, kinda like an encyclopedia entry & have a special page for students. I'm not certain here, but this might get you some visitors if the battle of alberta is part of canadian school curriculum.

Interesting fact: The yahoo keyword selector tool reports 49 searches in July 2006 for "Battle of alberta".

School curriculum...good idea, not sure if they teach it in schools....but lots of students would be hockey fans.

Searches for "Battle of Alberta" in July is like searching for "Subway Series" in February. No hockey in July. No Baseball in February.
