Most article sites will accept anything. If you want it to be picked up by other sites you need to make it good.

What is considered good? Length, content?

500-750 words. Plain text article with html resource box containing 1-2 links. Don't submit a press release.

350+ words is a good minimum.
Article sites cannot read every article in detail, they just scan them quickly.
    Make sure of the following:
*no hard line-breaks (let your lines wrap naturally)
*make sure you dont have double blank lines, seperate paragraphs with only one line
limit your links to 1 (or 0) in the article, and no more that 2 in the resource box.

I haven't had much experience with articles, but I think it's more quality of the content than length.

Is it practical to submit one article to 100 article directories then?
