What is an APP and how do you make money with it?

    I am seeing all these programs for creating apps and looking up keywords for mobile devices, but I am not understanding how to make money with them. I heard someone talking about an app for weight loss smoothies, but I don't understand what kind of app would be relevant to weight loss smoothies and what it would do. Does it make the smoothie for you? Now, that would be worth buying. Can someone please explain this whole app phenom?
