What Is "ALT" Text

Hi,DP seo masters what is "ALT" Text that many webmaster say to use in images?

What is its impact.Please let me know.

Here is an example:

<img src="images/dog.jpg" alt="Dog" />

also there is the title attribute, which is what is displayed in Firefox when you hover over, eg:

alt tag is nothing but when you drag your mouse into the image, that shows the keyword of the link,

 

Alt tag is useful for promoting images, video, and sites. If you have poor content site then you should use alt tag text in image with targeted keywords for optimizing your sites but use the alt tag text in a sense of image.

See the example below:
if you have a toy image in your site then you can choose alt image text like <img src="toy.jpg" alt="toys store" /> because this will be the image related text.

according to me 2 reason behind this
one is it is for search engine crawler.when crawler crawl the website,it is not able to read images so it can read "alt" text as a images description.

another reason is 1 or 2 country in world having more than 50% blind people,which is not see the images so the browser read the alt text.


plz tell me i am right or not???????
