Basically, you get a commission or a fixed amount of money per sale you make for the company. There are many ways to promote affiliate programs, you can do PPC, Bum Marketing, Video Marketing etc.

hi, bascially you get commission paid to you once you have generated a sale for another company, thats all its simple really, you can google it for more info & look on these forums for the most appropriate company relative to your niche.

If you really want a step by step PM me and I'll send you a link to some good ebooks which I will of course encode with an affiliate link so that when you click on the links I send you and buy I will earn a percentage of the sale. That's affiliate marketing.

you should start googlling some ebooks on the subject. in a nuttshell its just people who are selling other people's products and making commision on this. Try some classifieds sites if you're looking for clients, Craigslist.org is a good place to start - but it is rather saturated
Lets get honest here no one needs YOU, its the product that's important. IF you have a good product and if you bring targetted traffic to that affiliate you will get sales and commissions. There are many ways to do: avoid PPC unless you know what you are doing.
