Have a site or blog with absolutely enormous traffic. For 99.9% of Adsense-displayers, Adsense is at best a way or earning pennies (not really dollars) by giving people an incentive to leave your site rather than staying there. It's really difficult to envisage that many people benefit significantly from it. I suppose there are some people with good sites/blogs who manage to cover their hosting costs from Adsense income. There must be, because they say so themselves.
