Hi All, I've just realised I've been plugging away at optimizing my sites, part of that is building relevant links. It's just dawned on me that what the big G consider relevant may not be the same as I think it is. For example I have my other halfs business site where we sell accounting software, obviously direct competitors are highly unlikely to link to me, so, would the engines consider it relevant from other software sites, perhaps just other UK based sites, training companies (as she offers training) is it just a case of having some similar words on the main page? in the alt tags? headers? or is it something completely different ? Thanks
Despite the rumors SE's cannot tell the diffrence between relevant and not. IMHO they never will be able to. So dont worry about it to much.
SE's can tell the difference for sure my friend. You might get links for a webhosting website from a health or travel website and when you do a back link check on google you will be able to see the links shown as backlinks but google won't weigh the backlinks much at all. This is particularly true for google, not so much for yahoo and msn. For example a site may have reached great rankings on yahoo by blog and guestbook comment spam and have thousands of backlinks in yahoo, but if you check for the backlinks of the same site in google, you will not find even 10% of the links to be shown, plus the site will not be ranked anywhere in the google index. So this proves the SE's in genral and google in particular can distinguish between relevant and irrelavant links. Lastly Steve, to answer your question on what is a relevant links, anything even remotely related to your website theme is a relevant link. You are right that your competitors won't exchange links with your sites easily, the best thing is to get linsted on directories, submit articles to article sites and directories with your links on the article and so on and so forth, plus check the backlinks of the sites that are on top of the listings in google and check what kind of sites they are getting links from. You can make blogs, yahoo groups, feeder sites etc. on the theme of your main site, add a little content there and then link your main site from the blogs etc.
Relevant links are links that are related to the content of your website. If you have a travel site you must exchange links with travel related websites. Sameway if you are submitting to directories you must always submit your link to travel related catagory
what i do for finding a idea on related site go to dmoz and look in the catergorys that you would put you website then look at others in there Like my site is computers si i would place all my links in tech sites like ones that sell anything like mp3's or say the words computer on also can help
My only suggestion is to Google the following search terms and contact each of the top 20 sites: "Add a link" + "your keyword(s)" "Add a site" + "your keyword(s)" "Add URL" + "your keyword(s)" "Add an URL" + "your keyword(s)" "Submit a link" + "your keyword(s)" "Submit a site" + "your keyword(s)" "Submit URL" + "your keyword(s)" "Submit an URL" + "your keyword(s)" "Suggest a link" + "your keyword(s)" "Suggest a site" + "your keywords(s)" "Suggest URL" + "your keyword(s)" "Suggest an URL" + "your keyword(s)" "Your Region" + "Add url" "your keywords" + "directory" "your keywords" + "directories" keyword reciprocal keyword exchange keyword add site keyword resources keyword links "your industry" +add url, directories, etc... "related sites" + your keyword "related urls" + your keyword Best of luck
Thanks guys, I will work my way through that list over the next couple of weeks (oops there goes my christmas break) So in a nutshell anything software for the first in my sig, and forums would be ideal for the second ? Cheers,
I checked your sites, for the first one anything relating to software, accounting, ledger, ever finance could be a good link for you. For the second one, not so much any forum, but sites relating to "sales" would be a good link. Try to go for one way links in place of reciprocal links. Cheers
