You got it. It kills me almost every time I see a post that refers to something such as music or sports as being a niche. Those topics can be an individuals niche (something they're good at) but are not a niche when it comes to being a specific section of that such as music being narrowed down to genre or even artist.
Niche is a certain category, specific part of a certain topic. There are niches like adult, gambling, forex.
Agree to all of the above, HOWEVER when it comes to how it can help you with your earnings. you want a specific niche. So where as say "Dating" is a BROAD niche (or category) Picking Up Women (would be a more specific niche), Bringing romance back to a relationship (specific niche), Get my ex back (specific niche) all those specific niches would be contained in the broader niche of "Dating." By getting more specific it becomes easier to communicate correctly with your target market (who is being the product) so that your sales/advertising message is more on point. Plus you will spend less in advertising cost and become known as an authority quicker... with the right angle.
it is a market specific to one thing - for instance a car fanatic forum would have a niche market as it only deals with cars but digitalpoint isnt as it has all forms of online marketing.
