What is a lot of competition (pages and search counts).

    Hi,

I am doing some keyword research in order find out what the most easy to enter topics are for articles that I want to write ...

I know how to use all keywordtools and so on, but I am inexperienced in knowing what the numbers mean ...

When I check in google the number of competing pages on a keyword phrase, the results differ all the time ... some have 1.700.000 competing pages, and some have only 2000.000 ....

The question is : What is considered alot of competition nowadays, because almost every subject seems to have millions of competing pages ....

Can anyone put the numbers into 'proportion' with each other for me ?

    Regards,
    -FOP-

IMO the best use of those keywordtools is to look at them relatively. Meaning compare some keywords with others and the words that are less searched for are less competitive, the nrs itself are pretty meaningless as all tools give different nrs anyway. As long as the same keywords are more/less searched for on all keywordtools, you can have some understanding of the relative competitiveness.

None the less I keep on thinking the same as you and I've come to the conclusion that all keywords that are searched for less than 100 times/day are not really competitive.

As for the pagecount in the SE's, I never use them as they are even more meaningless than the keywordtools!
