Start with white SEO, that is good on page optimization, have some gray techniqhues in middle steps during link building. its very good practice. but dont go for black hat SEO.
I cant agree with you guys. Grey is not mixture of white hat and black hate SEO... If you have mixture of white hat and black hat what you get is still black hat... So, you maybe do 99% of white hat and that 1% of black hat will be enough for google to ban you... so, grey hat is not a mixture of those two, grey hat is when you do something that is non-ethical and non-natural but google still can't punish you. Let's say that you buy 100 of links, that's grey hat. Buying links is what google does not like and fight agains but usually can't punish you or that can lead that competitors can buy links for your website in order to hurt your rankings... you know what white hat is? that is when you do ONLY on-page SEO and all the rest is just usual things... when you begin to do something off-site with a purpose only to improve your positions, that's all grey... Black is something that is for sure what can be punished if caught. Like, presenting one content to google and another for human visitors or similar thing... or, when you have white background with white colored text and people can't see that and you stuffed keywords there...
Grey hat is partially Blackhat and Partially White Hat. Black hat is too harsh but Grey hat is medium one . You don't cheat so much . So its called Gray hat .
