    Hello everyone,
This is the first thread iv made on here.. just want to say this is a great forum community, and I hope to get to know some of you in the future!

My question would be regarding webdesign prices...
I *hope* to start off doing small designs... nothing to hard, coding as well.

    HTML & Graphic Design

Example: www.pinkmind.net - What is the price you would charge for a site like that, graphics and coding.

Personally I would charge around £500 for a site similar, however it would consist of the latest xhtml and CSS technology, be accessible, usable, both front and back end.
If you are new to the web design business it is best to do the sites very cheap or free for friends etc to build up a portfolio of work to show off to prospective clients :)

    Craig :)

Yes, I don't know xhtml or CSS.. so it would only be HTML.

I have done many free ones, just want to get into paid design as well...

Hopefully this gives people more perspective to help estimate for those types of designs :)

I would work on refinning and maturing your design style before working professionally. I don't mean any offense, but as far as usability the www.pinkmind.net site is bad. Maybe it's my screen resolution, but I can't read a thing on that site, and my vision is fine. Pixel is more or less out of style now days. You do have talent (if the pinkmind.net site is yours), but you just need to change up your style a little bit. I would also recommend not using site maps in the future. Look into web 2.0 (old yahoo>new yahoo for example), and try to adjust your style to the needs of today.

As far as how much to charge, for a site with as much content as pinkmind.net, and comparable features, I would charge about $600-$800 for pinkmind.net. This would be a site with a backend though and additional features/ additional revenue potential

I suggest your learn php, javascript, and learn how to work with MySQL. Learning php will drastically increase your confidence and your hireability.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments and suggestions!!

Yes the pinkmind website is mine... I'm not to sure why you cant read it, I believe the font is set at 7pt which makes it readable on my resolution of 1024x768.
I learnt HTML and webdesign on my own, so im just progessing as much as I can learn... right now that isn't much (14 mo babe =) )

What is web 2.0 ? I'm interested in learning more about this.

I have tried working with PHP but unfortunetly, it boggles my mind.. so much complex code!

Web 2.0 is a combination of things. Usually it refers to a site that is using some form of AJAX technology (Javascript and server side code) to create more of an application feel to the site/page. Google Maps I think is a great example. Web 2.0 is often referred to with community driven sites, like YouTube as well. Wikipedia has some good info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0

To answer your question what to charge. I start at $399 for a small site, usually around 5 or 6 pages. That includes a simple design, and a template system so the site can be easily changed in the future. Good luck in your venture.
