I say a pagerank of 6 is better than any other.

To me, the only thing a PR means to me is how much money my sites ads will sell for.

Page rank give priority for your site when index by SE (how frequency the bot come). If you search around some important keywords, you will notice that some low page rank websites at the top of high page rank website (it may change ranking from time to time). Anyway, the important thing is they all have page rank.
Do you think back links can affect the ranking? This may correct if you are in Yahoo or MSN. Think about it anyway.

The discussion should have been put to rest right after this post, I think. Too much fuzz about PR when it is nothing but a mere indicator.

I agree to you. The thing that matters is Content. PR doesn't matters much. Well i don't know that it matters to SERPs or not . I didn't got the niche stuff. Can you explain me in brief

PR 1 is very good if you have a small site, little content and just a few back links.
PR 5 is very bad if you have a huge site, quality content and a lot of back links.
PR 8 and up is a remarkable achievement regardless of the web site!

PR-5 is the best for a two year old site.

so if pagerank has no bearing on earch engine results, why do people in seo and webmasters seem to care about it ? is there an advantage in have a high pr other than being able to sell links :p
