We are getting 27k visits a month by YahooSlurp but only 199 by google? They obviously work differently, what is a good number of visits? thanks.
It doesn't matter. As long as they have a fresh copy of your site in their cache, more visits don't help you in the least. You want quality traffic from the search engines, not resource drain feeding the bots. Now, if your site isn't indexed, you want visits to the specific pages they don't cover. Beyond that, the best answer you'll find is you want one visit from the bots for every time you change your site.
well, that really depends on the type of site you have. its hard to say actually. you might have a site that returns 2 million search result in G for your targeted keyword or could have a site that returns 52 million search results. how many time google bot will visit your site depends on how many pages you have indexed on the site, how many you add on a regular basis, how many sites link to you, etc. and in relation to yahoo bot visiting your site more than google bot, it just means yahoo has more of your pages indexed or more backlinks are showing up on yahoo for your site. if you want more bot visit, then you need to keep working on adding new content as new content keeps google bot returnig to your site more frequently. also working on getting more backlinks will help you that way also
You could set your googlebot crawl rate via google webmaster central. They have 3 speeds: slow, normal and fast. This is best you can do to "change" the crawl rate. What you need to decided is do I have enough bandwidth per month to get crawled fast and very often, googlebot can eat bandwidth.
Yahoo tends to record a hell of a lot more back links for most sites. YOu might have 1000 backlinks recorded in Google and 10,000 in yahoo. That is why the numbers are so different as yahoo is doing more following. If you want google to visit you mosre you need to help them recognise all of your backlinks. I do agree with our friends though... It doesnt really matter as long as your site is indexed properly. Good Luck
If you are getting 200 Google bot visits a month and your site is one page thats good, if your site has 50k pages thats poor. Also update frequency and links effect the crawl volume.. See why there is no definate answer.
